Live Music Friday & Saturday 7pm - 10pm  Valena BrownValena Brown is a native of Los Angeles, California and has been exposed to music for as long as she can remember. Val’s father, an ardent music lover, owns an extensive collection of Jazz, Gospel, R & B, and Pop albums. Her mother, played piano for the renowned gospel icon Mahalia Jackson. Valena was destined to have a career in music. This songbird has an extensive 3.5 octave range with a sweet, light, airy, deeply intense, spiritually intriguing vocal style, which is down right soothing and very pleasing. As a vocalist / lyricist / performer, Valena’s style is most certain to have appeal for every color of the rainbow. Sit back and relax with a glass of wine in the cool, romantic ambiance of Uncork’d and enjoy the love in the music. Rodger Danes Rodger was born into a family of musicians and begin trumpet lessons at the age of 4. After graduating from Catholic High he was awarded a full music scholarship to Memphis State University. In 1973 Rodger became a member of the Augusta Symphony while serving in the U. S. Army. Later transferring to Atlanta Rodger became chief composer/arranger of the U. S. Army Forces Command Band, traveling and performing all over the world. Rodger has performed with greats such as Louis Bellson, Buddy Morrow and The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, The Dells, The Platters, Little Anthony and the Imperials, and The Metropolitan Opera’s premier of “Deseret”. Upon retiring from the Army, Rodger continued to pursue his love of music, performing in Micks Underground, Luxe, Oscar’s, The High Museum, Atlanta Civic Center, Uncork’d and for Hands on Atlanta. Creative Loafing’s James Rozzi dubbed Rodger “the ghost of Chet Baker”, saying “Dane’s playing obviously echoes the stately lyricism of Baker’s more laid back years” giving him excellent reviews. |
